Things to do in Trieste, Italy

So my week in Trieste was mostly taken up with the 3 day Trieste Espresso Expo (which fyi, only happens once every two years so the next one will be in 2020 in case you're interested).  BTW, the Expo, while a trade show, had people there who were not in the business...students, families with strollers, etc.  The reduced entry 3 day ticket was 21 euro so a day pass without the reduced price couldn't have been more than 10 euro.

The "La Cupola" By Alessi Will Brighten Every Morning

More Amazing History Of Alessi Stove-Top Espresso Makers

My last post provided a brief history of Alessi that I culled from their site. Additionally:

Alessi was founded in 1921 as a “Workshop for the processing of brass and nickel silver sheet metal, with foundry”, Alessi has always stood out for the high quality of its products. In almost a century of history, the company has gradually evolved to become one of the leading “Factories of Italian design”, capable of applying its expertise and excellence in design management to many different product types.

Alessi’s mission is now one of translating its quest for the most advanced cultural, aesthetic, design and functional quality into mass production. Alessi has been described as a “Dream Factory”, which uses its products to make people’s dreams come true, providing them with the Art and Poetry that they seek.

The Beautiful Alessi Pulcina Stove-Top Espresso Maker

A Quick History of Alessi Coffee Makers

Before I get going on this post about Alessi and one of their products, I think it’s important to be transparent that much of the information I’m sharing is from their website. I’m posting it here only because I found their site to be a bit busy and cluttered, despite my love of their products.

I was thinking about this quote from founder Albert Alessi:

A true design work must move people, convey emotions, bring back memories, surprise, and go against common thinking.

Could A Famous Stove-Top Espresso Maker Go Out Of Business?

The Bialetti Moka

Yes, this blog title is a bit of click-bait, and let me tell you why. I recently read an article on Grub Street and I was drawn to the title and how alarmist it sounded: "The Maker Of The Moka Pot Could Go Out Of Business". This was the page title, but the article title was only slightly less panicky: "Italy’s Beloved Moka Pots Are in Danger of Going Extinct".

Long Live Bialetti's Amazing Stove-Top Espresso Makers!

Some History Of The Best Stove-Top Espresso Maker

It’s not an overstatement to say that the Bialetti Moka is an iconic piece of Italian coffee culture. This stove-top espresso maker, previously sold by us at Coffee In Italia, was invented by Alfonso Bialetti in 1933 and is considered so iconic that it is displayed in multiple museums as an example of modern industrial art. These coffee pots  have gained worldwide popularity with more than 300 million sold around the globe. While there are now may variations of the original, there is no denying the importance of the original by Bialetti.

A Moment Of Italian Coffee Clarity

My distrust of and disdain for Starbucks is is not new, but I recently wrote about their efforts to further confuse their products with actual Italian coffee culture, and I also wrote about some Italian-American businesses pushing back on Starbucks and their desires to encroach on the beautiful Italian Culture in the North End in Boston.

A Neapolitan Coffee Experience

A Hidden Gem Of Italian Coffee Makers

I was fascinated with this coffee maker for a number of years before I convinced my wife to buy me one for Christmas. It was a used one off of eBay, and at the time I couldn't have been more excited. I had assumed a couple of things that turned out to be incorrect. First, that these were no longer manufactured and second, you would need a REALLY strong coffee to enjoy an authentic experience.

Italian Coffee Culture Is Great and Starbucks Is Evil

Italian Coffee Culture - US Style

An All Positive Day!

When I talked about my last post with my wife, which admittedly was pretty negative regarding Starbucks, she suggested that I should be more positive. We don't want to be the grumpy, negative business that only criticizes things we don't like. That's certainly not our model and if you spend a few brief seconds in the comments sections of various social media outlets, you will not see a shortage of negativity and of that I'm Positive! (see what I did there?)

Starbucks Is Not Italian Espresso - Part 1

Twenty years ago, I went to Italy for the first time. Some of my lasting memories are the bars and Tavola Calda in Rome where we often enjoyed sandwiches, cornetti, cappuccini and caffè espressi.

Lavazza - Part 2

I enjoyed learning and sharing the history of Lavazza in my previous post, but this time I wanted to dig a little deeper into some of the individual coffees that make up a portion of the selection that you can and should enjoy!

Lavazza - Part 1

I wasn’t always fascinated with Turin, Italy. More recently, however, this beautiful city crossed paths with my passion for Italian coffee and now I can’t wait to experience it in person. Italian coffee culture is an important part of daily life and experiencing the same love of coffee at home can bring your dreams back to Italy.

LavAzza Coffee From Turin

The most important reason for wanting to visit Turin is because of the creation of one Luigi Lavazza and the grocery store he opened in 1895. I have enjoyed Lavazza coffee for a long time, and I’ve written about coffee previously, more than once,  so I feel like it is my duty to make this coffee-based pilgrimage. If you need another reason and would like to learn more about Torino, please take a look at the Office of Tourism and imagine enjoying an espresso there!
Over the last few years, Lavazza has been growing their reach well beyond Italy and is one of the few Italian coffees available at my local store. Not all the delicious roasting styles, but the name is becoming very well known.
